A lovely smile is a sign of confidence and happiness. Unfortunately, too many people feel insecure about their teeth and hide their lovely smile with their hand, or smile with their lips closed. Having teeth that you are proud of can change your life in positive ways, and veneers are a popular solution to beautify teeth. Not sure what they are? We explain everything below in a ‘who, what, when, where, why and how’ format.
Who should get veneers?
Anyone who wants to improve their smile can get a veneer or several. Veneers can be used to fix chipped, uneven or discoloured teeth. They can also be used to fill in gaps between teeth.
What are veneers?
Veneers are thin, tooth-coloured shells that are made to fit the shape of your teeth. Veneers are created from porcelain or composite resin, with porcelain being the more durable solution.
When should you get veneers?
Porcelain Veneers can be placed on teeth once your adult tooth has fully grown into your smile from late teens to early 20's. There is no upper age limit for veneers
Where can you get veneers?
At Milford Dentists, we can fit you with veneers and have you walking out with an enhanced smile on the same day. Using the latest E4d technology, we’re able to create porcelain veneers over a few hours in a single day. We also work very closely with our dental lad techs for more complex cases, which is a longer process.
Why get veneers?
Veneers can boost your confidence and self-esteem. Choosing a porcelain veneer or composite resin veneer restoration is
a good option because:
a good option because:
- The tooth preparation is as minimal as possible and sometimes little or no tooth preparation is required, as the restoration is attached using composite resin bonding.
- These restorations are very lifelike.
How does the procedure work?
First, we decide how your teeth should look with a trial smile - After making models of your existing teeth in plaster we can modify the teeth on your model by adding wax or shaving the plaster down and reshaping again with wax. This allows you to look at the new tooth or teeth shapes before we start your treatment allowing you to have input into the outcome right from the start.
By taking an impression of this model we can then quickly mock up how your new teeth will look in your mouth by using quick-setting tooth coloured plastic. After you have had a look at how your new teeth may look, the plastic is simply peeled off.
At this point, you should have a good idea of what is involved regarding shaping your tooth and how much shaping if any is required (i.e. how much of your valuable tooth needs shaving down so we can achieve the look you are after). We then take records of your tooth/teeth if we are making porcelain veneers and these are then made either using our same day milling machine or by our dental technicians. We place a temporary plastic veneer on your tooth whilst we make the porcelain veneer/veneers. You return and after trying the restoration on your tooth/teeth and checking that you are happy with the appearance, we then bond the veneer/veneers in place.
